APH: When She Was A Kingdomby ~SlippedDisco

_{100% from scratch, and I must say I am quite proud of this indeed. I started this back in.. oh god I don't even remember. Way too long ago.

Here’s another piece of pixel art of Romania. I drew her in her WW2 military uniform (with some personal tweaks mind you) and had a go at Himayura’s colouring style, which was a real challenge using my abilities in pixel art. xD

_{A little World War II info on Romania (known back then with her full name being the 'Kingdom of Romania'):
Romania attempted to be, as she did in World War I, neutral at the beginning of World War II. She had previously had the territorial guarantors France and Britain helping her look after her borders, but once the Fall of France happened in 1940 she was left on her own. Left to deal with the growing facist support in her nation and the rise of the Iron Guard and a regime led by a man who would later become her boss, Ion Atonescu, who urged her to form an allience with Germany.
She did so and became a member of the Axis Powers. At the time, she was unaware of a deal Germany had made with Russia beforehand about his territorial claims in her land.

Romania joined in with invading the Soviet Union in 1941 and Germany took a hefty amount of oil and supplies from her in the process. Romania contributed more troops to the eastern front than all of Germany's other allies combined, and was also the second largest persecutor of the Jewish people; killing what is estimated to be between 280,000 and 380,000 Jews.

When the war took its toll on the Axis Powers, Romania was repetetively bombed by the Allies from 1943 and Russia invaded her in 1944.
Romania's relationship with Germany fell apart in the process and she lost the will to participate in the Axis cause, later co-operating with her monarch at the time, King Michael, and staged a coup d'état. This not only disposed of Atonescu's regime, but also put Romania on Allies side. She hoped to co-operate with America and was quite uneasy with working alongside Russia in fighting against Nazi Germany and Hungary whilst attacking them from the east; the tension between Romania and Russia was made even worse when Russia used Romania as a satellite state during the war.

Despite joining the winning side rather late into the war (a move which some historians believe shortened World War II by six months and save thousands of lives as a result), Romania lost significant amounts of land to the Soviet Union and Bulgaria, but got Northern Transylvania back from Hungary. Approximately 370,000 Romanian soldiers lost their lives in the war.

Romania was left bloody and beaten, and wasn't recognised as a co-belligerant state to the Allies in the 1947 Treaty of Paris. Soviet occupation following World War II led to the rise of the Communist Party as the main political force in Romania's land, also leading to the forced abdication of the King and the establishment of a single-party people's republic in 1947.

Starting with a pencil drawing, then making clean lineart on a Macromedia Flash document to then colour in Paint proved to be a lengthy process but well worth it. Maybe I'll make lineart like I did for this when I open collabs again. Becuase last time the idea fell flat on its face. |C

This was originally done as opposed to the usual chibis you see in Hetalia profile cards for the nations, although I doubt this will ever be used in such a situation.

I’m really glad you decided to post this onto here in the end because me gusta. /shotdead No really because I think this is one of your best personal/scratch works so far and I’m really impressed with the epic progress you’ve made with it! Dammit, but why did you remove the flag? I thought that was a perfect addition, Transylvania too! I have to honestly say this looked a lot better with those things. I’m so sad you removed them. WHY? ;n;

SRS, YOU’RE A MOTHERFECKING PRO AT IT. IDK how to put it exactly…if you ask me it kind of looks professional. BUT THAT’S JUST ME, BUT I LOVE IT SO MUCH ANYWAY. Haha, I really like how you kind of went “Hima-style” there with the shiny shading too, I think it looks so cool on this AND SHINY. SHINY IS ALWAYS A GOOD THING IN MY BOOK. PRETTY/AWESOME/EPIC SHADING IS EPIC. The hair is mon favorite, I adore how it looks. *touches*

NGH, I LOVE HER EXPRESSION TOO. For some reason I REALLY LIKE the way her eyebrows are positioned like that, I ‘unno, it looks so cool and the expression is really neat. DON’T JUDGE ME. Her eyes are really pretty too, PRETTY EYES ARE PRETTY. <3

The way I had drawn the flag pissed me off and I couldn't seem to correct it. That and my colouring style when it comes to pixel art meant it was taking way longer than intended and my patience got tested a little too much. I will draw Roma-tan holding her flag someday but probably will colour it traditionally. That'd be so much easier to do. xD Or maybe just pixel it on a smaller scale.
As for Tranny, again the way he looked was proving difficult to correct. The wings specifically. It seems I'm better at pixelling mini Trannys. ..That sounds wrong. /shot

I enjoyed using the dithering technique here; having a good colour palette for her uniform made it so much easier. And thank you! I'd like to think this is one of my best attempts at the style. Professional? Oh geeze lovey, you flatter me too much. xD The shiny shading style was fun to have a go at too.

_{Romania hasn't been designed as a character in Hetalia as of yet (correct me if I'm wrong), so what gender the character is/will possibly be is up to everyone's own personal opinion. I personally prefer working with a Romania character which is female.}
